Let’s just be real. No one likes getting their picture taken.

—You know I am telling the truth.

You are speaking to a woman who has to enjoy a good ol’ fashion (with bourbon-soaked cherries, of course) before I even stand in front of a camera to get my picture taken - so I get it. The thing is, though, we all should get our pictures taken, every single one of us. Whether you’re getting married and you want to send out some killer save the dates, or you’re a mother with a GORGEOUS belly or a grandma who wants some memories with your babies… we ALL need to document our moments. Let me do that for you.

I believe you should have a certain type of trust with the person you are investing in to capture these moments in time that you may not get back.
Somebody you vibe with.
So let me tell you a little about me.
Let’s catch some vibes.

I’m a mother and a wife, two of the things I value most (part of the reason why I think capturing YOUR life is so important). My kids are my life, and that is a large part of why my company name is Rae West Photography. R stands for Rachel, A stands for my firstborn Ava, and E represents my daughter Eden. Pretty perfect, right? All the kids call me Rae Rae, so hey, it just makes sense.

I’ve been told I’m an old soul who loves to drink coffee in the morning and whiskey at night. My playlist consists of Zeppelin, a little bit of Marvin (actually a lot), Badu, some Red Hot Chili, Billie, Beethoven, Cash, Fleetwood, some Teddy, some Stevie, and definitely some Gap. Oh, and let’s not forget Sade and Jimi. Essential oils are absolutely essential, along with a dozen lit candles all around my house. I believe in naps when possible (if ever possible) and I love rainy days; especially if I can watch Sense and Sensibility or binge on Star Wars with the fluffiest blanket. My passion is art, art of all kinds. Art fuels my soul. Whether I am able to throw some mud on a wheel, paint, cross-stitch, draw, and most importantly use my camera. I have been taking photos since I was a kid. I found joy in the darkroom in my high school years and continued on in college, studying the art of photography. I have been using my camera professionally for over six years and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. My heart is set on fire when I have my camera in my hands. I want to capture the twinkle in your eye. I want to capture how everyone sees you. YOUR SMILE, your LAUGH. I want to capture your essence.

You may feel like you don’t have an essence to capture. You may believe you need to get to a size 10 (trust me I have thought that). You may think you can just do family photos next year.

But don’t think, feel, or believe…

Just do. Take the photo.

Don’t wait to get to a certain size. don’t wait until it’s the perfect time. Documenting your life is so crucial. It’s everything and it’s so important. You are important to your tribe. Put your trust in me to capture who you are.

Whether it’s capturing your expression walking down the aisle looking at the one you love more than life itself, or a photo of you and your child, trust someone to take that photo and I hope it’s me.

Much love. xo

"Rachel was amazing, the best photography experience we could have had for our special days. She established a rapport with us that made the whole experience feel effortless and fun. We had our wedding and reception on opposite sides of the country and flew her out to shoot both. She was on top of all the logistics and at the end of it all we have such incredible images and wonderful memories. Big thanks to Rachel."
